Keep inventing the wheel
if you must— we all know
it’s safer just to tread
the well-worn path.

And there’s an upside
to your redundancy,
when you stop
and do the math.

Something about
retracing your steps
along a known route you see
may inspire new thoughts
springing from the familiar;
the old threads
reconfigure themselves.

Your new garment
is just a thinly disguised version
of the familiar lies,
but distracting all the same.
